At the end of February I completed my first half marathon (2nd RunDisney Race YAY!) the 2013 Princess Half Marathon. I have been waiting for this day for a very long time.
All the training and preparations lead up to this Princess half weekend! On Friday we all (all = family and friends) to the Princess Expo and bought some cute running swag as well as picked up our bibs and shirts. Getting to the expo was not as smooth as I would have liked but we arrived and were able to experience the expo.
On Saturday before the race we decided to get into the Disney spirit a little early and went to Magic Kingdom. We finally eat at the gorgeous Be our Guest Restaurant. We didn't stay long since I needed to wake up super early the next day!
I was so nervous/excited/happy/scared all night long! I couldn't wait to go run!
I knew right away what Princess I wanted to be! I decided to be Snow White. Run Disney races are so fun because almost everyone dresses up! Its the coolest thing ever. Though it took a long time I was able to make my own costume. So not only did I train to run a half marathon, I prepped and learned to sew and use my sewing machine!
The day finally came and we were ready to run! This race was made even special because I was able to run the race with my best friends, Damaris and Daylin! We made such cute princesses! ;)
The race was everything I expected all the fun photo ops, the music, the mile signs and the Disney magic.
Everything wasn't all cheerful however, the race was very crowded and my knee was acting up. I also did not pace myself therefore I became really tired at the last couple of miles. Thank goodness for my unofficial coach Daylin for pushing and encouraging me to keep going! Thanks!!! (even though we slowed her down lol)
We ran through Magic Kingdom and Epcot and even made lines to take pictures with characters! It was such a fun race :) But still I couldn't wait to run the finish line!!!!
I finally saw the finish line and couldn't be happier! All three of us together we ran and crossed the finished line!!! Then we received our race bling! The beautiful princess medal! So happy I was able to share this experience with such amazing girls!!!
Not only did this race help me become a runner, it also showed me how my family (even though my mom was not fond of me running) no matter what will always support me. My parents and Jonathan were so excited for me every moment of the race! They too deserved a medal for being such amazing spectators. My dad even told me he enjoyed seeing how happy, proud and excited Jonathan was throughout the whole race. I love my family!!!
The biggest 'takeaway' from the Princess Half experience, was that you can do anything you set your mind to! I learned to sew and made a cute wearable costume even though at first did not even know how to thread the sewing machine. I trained hard and ran a half marathon which when I started I couldn't even run 1 mile. I can't wait for my next Run Disney race !!!
Love this <3
