It took a lot of preparation. My first task was to make the scripts for the children. The overall theme was Choose the Right. I decided to make three sections. The first section showed us how our ancient prophets taught how to choose the right. The second was how Jesus Christ taught to choose the right and the last section was how the modern day prophets taught to choose the right.
After I had the scripts and different sections finished it was easier to organize the program itself. The practices were a bit challenging. The kids being kids would get bored and want to have fun. So I started to promise a surprise at the end of the program! That kept them intrigued and more reverent.
Finally the day came of the primary presentation. I was so nervous. I really wanted the parents to see how hard their children had worked. I wanted them to be touched by their sweet spirit as I was.
The first song they sang was Nephi's courage. As they walked up unto the podium all dressed in white they looked like little angels. My eyes got teary and I felt accomplished. As one by one started to say their part my heart became overjoyed. They all behaved so graciously. Once it was over, I knew that all my hard work paid off. All the planning and practicing was to make this presentation as spiritual and beautiful. Many parents came up to me to tell they cried and felt the spirit. (Even parents with no children in the primary). The children themselves always bring this special sincere spirit and I was happy to help magnify that.
The Stake Primary was there and the president was so impressed. She loved it! She even asked for a picture because she wanted to see if they could publish it in the Friends church magazine. I was beyond thrilled.
As promised I owed my kids a surprise. I decide to treat them to an Ice cream social. (our chapel as pavilion) They had a short sharing time while I set up the different stations in the pavilion. They had a toppings station, ice cream station, water station and a coloring station. The children were super excited to go outside and see the surprise. Before they digged in, I made sure they understood how proud we were and how grateful we were for all their hard work. They are truly the ones who made this as special as it was. I love my primary! I love my calling!
The ice cream bar is such a cute idea!
