This year for Thanksgiving we had our dinner at our home. I am so grateful we had the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving together as a family. My mother is the Turkey expert so of course that was her assigned dish! (it is every year!) We shared the sides dishes and I made desserts! It was my first time making peach cobbler! Everyone enjoyed it expect for me. I don't know if I like peach. I thought I did but I think I enjoy the raw fruit only.
So grateful for the love and yumminess my family brought! LOL
This holiday is so special! Beside the history of Thanksgiving, this holiday focuses on remembering why we ALL should be grateful. Even though we shouldn't need a holiday to remember to count your, sometimes it does not come naturally.
This November has had its challenges for us. We have been going through a trying time. Yet there is so much to be grateful for. It would make no sense to let gratitude for the blessings we do have be crowded out by sorrow over the things we lack. My family to me is my life. I am blessed to have such an amazing one. With this blessing alone I should be grateful always. We all have joys in our life despite our trails. However, sometimes trails can be very difficult and it can become hard to remain grateful.
No matter how difficult a trail may seem you can find comfort in the gospel. We have.
This quote in specific has helped us immensely
"When trails are not consequences of your disobedience they are evidence that the Lord feels you are prepared to grow more. (Prov. 3:11-12) He therefore gives you experiences that stimulate growth, understanding, and compassion which polish you for your everlasting benefits. To get you from where you are to where He wants you to be requires a lot of stretching, and that generally entails discomfort and pain."
-Richard G. Scott
(Trust in the Lord, GC October 1995)
Practicing yoga I can really understand the discomfort and pain that can come from stretching but once you reach that pose you have been working so hard to get to, it is truly such pure joy!
We are grateful for all the blessings our Heavenly Father has given us, it helps us recognize that He loves us. And we are also grateful for the trails in our lives, as we know it is for our own growth.
